And the league has a new dietician who says players are going to be eating fewer food items this season.
NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly said during an NHL media conference call that the league is aiming to eliminate 10 percent of the food items players consume during a regular season.
Daly said that while he doesn’t know exactly how many meals players will eat this season, he said he’s expecting a reduction of 20 percent.
That means players will need to eat more lean meat and fewer fish, he added.
Daly also said players will have to cut back on food like pizza and burgers, but it’s unclear how much.
Players will also need to cut out sweets, desserts and desserts that are a favorite of many players, such as cookies and candy.
Daly noted that the players are expected to eat less of their food on the road, but the number will probably remain the same.
NHL players will start their off-season on March 30 and will continue until the start of the NHL regular season on April 1.
It’s the first season in franchise history where players will not have to wear an official uniform.
